hour to make heads and tails of all this, monica crowlly, ron paul and -- crowley, and scott brown. david: that is a good group. closing bell sounds on wall street. [closing bell rings] it went above and below the zero mark about 50 times today. so markets really trying to find direction. here's a look where we're ending the day. all green arrows as we ended the day. oil was up. but you might expect with a gain 1 1/2%, higher gain on the dow, not so today. gold is up as well. a lot of contrarian signals not fitting what they are supposed to do or what they at least have been doing over past couple months. melissa. melissa: while markets wait for tomorrow here is everything you need to know right now. no political path forward. dr. ben carson shaking up the 2016 campaign today, announcing he will not attend the fox news debate in his hometown of detroit, that is tomorrow night. fox business's peter barnes in d.c. with the latest.

reporter: hey, melissa, nearly a year after he declared he was running and spending more than $50 million, ben carson is out of the republican presidential race. he finished well behind donald trump and other rivals in the primaries and caucuses to date, collecting just six republican delegates. in that statement he would not attend tomorrow night's gop debate tomorrow night to be aired by fox news. quote, i do not see a political path forward in light of last evening's super tuesday results however this grass roots movement on behalf of we the people will continue along with millions of patriots who supported my campaign for pridt. he remain committed supporters and donors. separately former massachusetts governor and 2012 presidential candidate mitt romney has announced he will give a major speech tomorrow on the state of the 2016 presidential race. as you know, he has made critical comments about the

front-runner, donald trump. melissa. melissa: peter. wow, thank you so much for all of that. republican candidates running out of tile to take the lead from donald trump. be sure to tune into the next gop fight night in detroit. hire is a live look the at stage. here we go, yep, there it is. minus one podium for ben carson. catch all of the fireworks from the candidates who will be there including donald trump live on fox news starting tomorrow night at 9:00 p.m. eastern. david: wow, so there will be four people there. in case you missed it here are the results from the biggest voting day of primary season so far. donald trump was runaway winner for republicans taking seven out of 11 super tuesday states. ted cruz winning his home state of texas along with oklahoma and alaska. marco rubio celebrating his first victory. that was in minnesota. for democrats bernie sanders performing i guess a little better than some had expected but hillary clinton did capture some key wins including

massachusetts right next door to new hampshire. and arkansas. melissa. melissa: the grand ol' party and donald trump continuing to shatter turnout records. one million republicans voting in virginia, more than 100% from eight years ago. tennessee and vermont also seeing upticks by more than 50% since 2008. the democratic side telling a different story. turnout lagging behind, signaling enthusiasm gap heading into the general election. david: let's look at updated delegate count. donald trump firmly in the lead for gop. he has more than 25% of the delegates that are needed to secure the republican nomination. ted cruz is in second place with 226 delegates. marco rubio 110. on democratic side hillary clinton has nearly half of the delegates she needs for the nomination. >> tonight this campaign enters a new phase. tonight was another decision point. and the voters have spoken.
4:04 pm
>> this campaign is not just about electing a president. it is about making a political revolution! >> only too bad that winner didn't take all because if winner took all this thing is over. >> we know we've got work to do but that work, that work is not to make america great again. america never stopped being great. >> i will campaign as long as it takes and wherever it takes to insure that i am the next president of the united states! [cheers and applause] melissa: okay. is donald trump unstoppable? what can his rivals do next? here to weigh in, monica crowley, on line opinion editor at washington times, fox news contributor. we watched some things go by and you and i were sitting here so amazed. romney, what is he going to say tomorrow? i mean he could either say it is time to come together and try and unify the party or just go
4:05 pm
throw molotov cocktail in the middle. what do you think? >> no one knows what he is going to say. there are indications he himself will not get into this race. who knows. there are indications he was not prepared to endorse anybody in the race. who knows. we're trying to read tea leaves. he opposed to donald trump. said trump should release tax returns. very aggressive pushing against the republican front-runner. i doubt he will give a conciliatory we all need to get along kind of speech tomorrow. melissa: right. watching last night, i was here very late. watch reaction today, like a lot of people have gone insane. that is what i feel like watching it. trump has driven them there. he is winning and pretty decisively. you have this enormous group of people saying this won't happen. we can't let it happen as if everybody who is the verying for trump, they need to be saved from themselves and their own ignorance and eventually they will see the light.
4:06 pm
how does all of this -- how do you put humpty dumpty back together again? >> melissa, what you described is totally true and so condescending for voters supporting trump for that very reason. for election cycle after election cycle, decade after decade we've been instructed by establishment and donor class and elite, conservatives can't win and suck it up, support bob dole, mitt romney, john mccain. all good men, i have voted for all of them. but to have it forced down their throats, the grassroots said we've had enough. we're done with you all and wee try something completely different. you have the donor class there are conservatives eye posing trump because they believe he is not conservative. they're trying to join a force to stop him but there is force bigger than they are, the american voter. conserve activities, moderates,
4:07 pm
independents, disaffected democrats, saying we had enough of all of y'all, we'll try donald trump. melissa: the force isn't bigger than donald trump. majority of people showing up to vote in record numbers. this is what our entire system is based on, more people show up to vote for something, that thing is the will of most of the people. >> and so why -- melissa: ends up getting lost. >> so why would anybody in the republican party want to kill that? think about it. melissa: they don't like the outcome. they don't like outcome. >> exactly right. so you have huge enthusiasm gap at last on the part of republican party and republican major dome mows want to try to kill that. just as they wanted to kill the tea party movement. melissa: yeah. >> whenever conservatives have activism, energy, enthusiasm, the party elites, the ruling class want to go in to try to kill that. whereas on the other side the democrats harness that energy. whether on behalf of bernie sanders or on behalf of
4:08 pm
president obama, they go in harness in and use it. the gop in to try to kill the energy on their side. that is why they have been losing. melissa: what happens here? they talk about how they will derail the convention. they have the diet math, two brownies now and carrot later. they're doing that on the way to the convention. how does this whole group get back together again. >> or do they? melissa: if they don't what does that mean? >> that is the big question hanging over this, what happens and can the party be unified. donald trump said, look i'm a uniter, unlike what they do on the left which is divide and conquer and split people by race, ethnicity and gender i will bring everybody together. melissa: that would be interesting. >> he has a lot of attraction among democrats, union guys, first-time voters are excited for donald trump. warning to the party establishment, to the donor
4:09 pm
class and eithers trying to -- others trying to derail donald trump, if you try to do that you will have revolt in the republican party and conservative movement of kind you will never have seen. melissa: i saw a great quote on the cruz team, he would have won arkansas had other candidates not been in the race. >> yeah. melissa: i would have won the new york city marathon if the other runners were not in the race. >> 24 hours to do it. melissa: all that. monica, thank you so much. david, over to you. david: you guys have really teed up a theme we'll be hitting from all angles with scott brown, ron paul, a lot of other people. first gerri willis in the newsroom with what latest what americans are looking for on the campaign trail. gerri? >> david this is fascinating. exit polls showing why they vote for individual candidates, when it comes to donald trump, no surprise, people angry with the federal government. look at polls in massachusetts, 61% of the people voted for trump saying i'm angry with the federal government.
4:10 pm
13% rubio, cruz 12, kasich 8. as you can see right there. cruz voters however are values voters. voters saying he shares my values, cruz 42% in arkansas. rubio 31, trump 11, carson nine. this is interesting. rubio big, big, big with the late deciders. he came in close second in virginia and there 38% of the late deciders went for rubio. 18% for trump. 16% for cruz. now, you know rubio had been criticized coming out hard against trump, might hurt him with his base, might not like language is using. who is getting unfair attacks tab, getting in trouble with voters because of it, donald trump in virginia. 44% of the folks saying trump launch be unfair attacks. cruz number two at 34%. rubio 11.
4:11 pm
arkansas, same thing playing out here, trump launching unfair attacks trump, 45%, cruz 29%, rubio 10%. trump did very, very well. but clearly a portion of the electorate doesn't like the campaign style. doesn't like the way he goes after other people. more to come i am sure. david? david: yeah we'll be talking about it all hour, gerri, thank you very much. melissa. melissa: police confirming the death of former chesapeake energy ceo aubry mcclendon. mcclendon had just been indicted in federal court. more on the developing story coming up. look at that, wow. david: former presidential candidate ron paul saying not happy with any options in the race here, republican or democrat. what he says wouldn't surprise him all said and done what he thinks about the major announcement coming tomorrow from mitt romney. a preview from ron coming up. melissa: party front-runners hillary clinton and donald trump

david: opportunity for haters is closing despite trump's seven victories. they're trying to stop trump's momentum. former presidential candidate mitt romney is making announcement on the presidential race tomorrow. here to weigh in, ron paul, two-time presidential candidate and former congressman. great to see you, dr. paul. what do you think romney is going to say? >> i don't know, i've been asking at the end of the last
4:16 pm
campaign, will you endorse romney. i know him, he is real gentleman. i like his family. we don't have much agreement on issues of foreign policy or monetary policy i think he will just be giving advice to the republican party that we have to find a candidate. i think obviously going to politely plant seeds, hopes under minds the trump campaign, but who knows. david: is think any candidate running, you mentioned trump, who knows, romney may throw his own hat into the race tomorrow, but is there any candidate running candidate that you can support. not really. not that know of. there was one, but he dropped out. he wasn't getting attention. david: talking about your son, i'm sure. >> yeah. there is nobody there that is interested in ideas. the ideas of monetary policy and the principles of keynesianism
4:17 pm
that really undermine our economic system. this fuss is going on, this is very serious. destruction of middle class. socialists and trump play on this but no one talks about what happened to the middle class. you know something about the federal reserve. the federal reserve when you destroy money you always destroy middle class. look what we do to savers? david: it is terrible. dr. paul, you and i talked about this, very tough to talk about federal reserve to american voters without their eyes glassing over? >> well, i had a different experience. give me an audience of 12-year-olds i think in 20 minutes i can convince them monopoly money isn't a good idea. why should we give a few people power. college kids that talk to over the years, i still go, i get good reception, don't get to hear it elsewhere. talk more about the fed. david: take your ad vikes doctor. thank you very much. you mentioned your, mentioned your son senator rand paul, he
4:18 pm
put out an interesting tweet. a lot of people are scratching their chins. if they endorse me and declare a do-over in new hampshire i will unsuspend my campaign. what does that mean? could your son get back into the race? >> i guess he could. it is legal. we always wonder when people drop out why do they suspend their campaigns. why don't they say i'm out of this, i'm done campaigning. david: hold on a second, you are closer to him than just about anybody in the world. do you have any information? have you asked him whether he will try to get back in? >> no. and he is not likely to ask me about, to approve each of his tweets. i think, i think there is some humor in there, but i don't, don't stand by what i say. you have to ask him what he means. but i would guess that the odds of him getting back in, but who knows what is going to happen. already everybody has been surprised. i keep hinting around that, which one of the two, who, is this going to be clinton against trump?
4:19 pm
>> i think there is still a good chance the candidates aren't identified yet. david: doctor, i have to ask you very quickly, practically out of time, if it is between hillary and trump, is there any difference? would you choose one over the other? >> no. i couldn't do it because the difference would be minor. they're endorsed and controlled by the philosophy of interventionism and authoritarianism, foreign policy, monetary policy i wouldn't expect the government to shrink in any manner with either one of them or other candidates because i never seen in my lifetime government shrink. that is why people are angry because nothing really changes. david: doctor, talking about authenticity, who is authentic in this race, nobody questioned your authenticity. that's why we love you. dr. ron paul, great to see you, thanks for talking with us. stay healthy. >> thank you very much. melissa: just give him 30 minutes or less, donald trump's pledge to fix washington gridlock.

david: hillary clinton is doing a victory lap today after blowing out super tuesday with some major wins in key states. to celebrate she is holding a rally at the javits center, that is right here in new york city,
4:30 pm
less than two hours from now. fox news's ed henry standing by at javits center right in the middle of it all. i thought i saw you here in new york in the studio. you're here for the javits reception. reporter: hi, david. hillary clinton is trying to show force here. that she has ground troop and service employees union, for example, out here in full force packing this crowd behind me. she will have the governor, governor cuomo. have the mayor, bill de blasio ahead of new york primary there in couple months. but also trying to show that after super tuesday, she is getting closer and closer to wrapping up this nomination. she is already, i was at her victory rally in miami. looking ahead to the general election, attacking donald trump, trying to suggest she is already looking past bernie sanders. sanders had rally in maine. they have a caucus on saturday. he made clear he is in the race to stay. with proportional delegates on democratic side, you come away with some delegates an can stay
4:31 pm
in the race. in the month of december, bernie sanders out raised hillary clinton by $12 million. he will stay until the philadelphia convention in july. the question will he be at convention as nominee or at the convention with somebody with a lot of delegates trying to get something out of hillary clinton. bottom line, coupled with superdelegates, party bosses largely behind hillary clinton, she is almost halfway to securing the democratic nomination. so she is making up a lot of ground right now, david. david: she can look past bernie. the question whether she will be able to look past james comey. we'll see if that happens. ed, thank you very much. appreciate it. melissa: trump and clinton wrapping up victories on the biggest night of their election season thus far. the front-runners have a new focus, taking shots at each other. >> the stakes in this election have never been higher and the rhetoric we're hearing on the other side has never been lower. >> she has been there for so long.
4:32 pm
i mean if she hasn't straightened it out by now she is not going to straighten it out in the next four years. >> we have to make america whole. we have to fill in. >> she wants to make america whole again. i'm trying to figure out what that is all about. make america great again is much better than making america whole again. melissa: i mean he is marketing expert. joining me now, star parker, cure founder around president along with julie roginsky, former political advisor to senator frank lautenberg. she is also fox news contributor. now comes the time, you saw it last night, where each of these candidates on both sides try to nail down, put negative label on the other one that will make people not want to vote for them. let's start with donald trump and what he is going to try and do to hillary clinton. star, what do you think is the winning strategy for him and what do you hear coming out of him already? >> we don't know if he can win. if he is going to stay with the theme, let's make america great again, and she goes with let's
4:33 pm
make america whole again and tries to fracture on basis of race and gender, hillary may get upper hand. melissa: wait a minute. she will get upper hand by fracturing and pulling the, pulling, that didn't make sense. >> he already pulled the country apart. he already segmented people into various groups by attacking various groups. this is probably what we'll hear a lot from hillary clinton. be interesting to see what donald trump's strategy could be. melissa: julie, put that in nutshell, what would be label, go with what starr says, what would be label that hillary clinton would put on trump that would work? >> she is talking being unifier. he is talking about being unifier david dike and louis farrakhan. melissa: that is not legal. you guys are not playing along. stick on trump. stick on trump. >> as democrat, trump is divisive. democratic spin on trump is not democratic spin, it is realistic

not he is sort of puts his finger on exact thing, whether little marco or low energy jeb bush, he comes up, he is a great marketer. he comes up with this catchy thought in the back of your mind and sticks it to someone and they can't get it off. what would be damaging to hillary? he said liar a lot. what do you think about that one, star? >> i think most people already know she's a liar. she has been polling as liar for long time. he tried to use that on his opponents like ted cruz and didn't work, especially not in texas and oklahoma. programs he should think about something else to call her. maybe more derogatory term the way he went after megyn kelly. that might stick. i don't know what to tell donald trump to do. he does go into the gutter quite a bit. i don't know what he is planning to do against hillary clinton. we do know she has things on him. melissa: yeah. julie, what do you think would stick? interesting that star says everybody knows she's a liar. that doesn't make a difference. >> the problem with hillary, advantage for hillary and disadvantage for hillary all of her scandals are already baked. in you think she is liar you're not voting for her.
4:36 pm
if you thought she is liar last 25 years that is what you believe. one thing to paint little marco rubio in corner because he newcomer and ted cruz, same thing with everybody trump has gone after, jeb bush. if you disliked hillary you disliked last 2 1/2 decades. if you like her, you like her. both candidates have incredibly high negatives. they have almost 100% name recognition. people formed their opinions about them. it will be a race to the gutter see who is less liked. melissa: sounds like politics. >> not uplifting. certainly not hope and change. melissa: thanks, guys. david: we've got breaking news. ohio governor john kasich answering questions moments ago from reporters in michigan. next tuesday march 8th is their primary. he was just asked about ben carson dropping out of the race. take a listen. >> had a conversation with dr. ben carson why did you get the impression he is suspending his campaign? >> i was told he was by my folks. i didn't ask him to confirm

anything. i just had a very nice personal conversation with ben. he is motivated in many, many good ways. i have great regard and respect for him. as i recounted to him he came off the plane in new hampshire with his wife to meet my wife and children. he is a heck of a great guy. and, no i didn't confirm anything. i don't push people like that. he has been out there working hard. i have a lot of respect for him. >> one more question. >> people in your own party saying your presence in the race helps people like marco rubio lose in virginia and that you're taking votes away from people like marco rubio? >> maybe he is taking votes away from me. i mean i beat him in massachusetts. if he had dropped out i would have had more votes. if he hadn't sent one of his hit men up to vermont i would have beaten trump up there. i don't know what that is all about. gets down can he win florida? do i win ohio? i mean that's what we'll see. if you can't win your own state then i don't know how you move on. we'll see. david: ohio is on march 15th.
4:38 pm
he said himself if he can't win ohio, he is governor of ohio, probably he too will move out of the race. melissa. melissa: the big winner of super tuesday is already making changes to sound less like a candidate and more like a president. >> i am a unifier. i know people will find that a little bit hard to believe, but believe me i am unifier. once we get all of this finished i will go after one persons, that's hillary clinton on the assumption she is allowed to run. melissa: donald trump toned down his unapologetic attacks on other candidates and focused more on the future of the country. as he set his sights on general election. here to weigh in on the new trump tone at least for last night, it changes and changes again. star parker is back with us and david payne republican strategist and vox global partner. david, i understand why at this point in the race he might want to pivot to sound more presidential. i wonder, he has gotten here with his mouth. that is what is appealing to his supporters.
4:39 pm
isn't there a danger in toning it down? >> whenever you change your brand in middle of a campaign there is risk your core supporters will lose their interest in you or might not be able to pick up new supporters who have gotten used to your brand. it is very hard for donald trump to sound presidential and suddenly shift his tone when the% of the what is coming out of his -- 90% of what is coming out of his mouth, dismissive of really great ideas republicans care about or insulting other candidates. i think he will have a real struggle to shift the narrative in his favor. melissa: star, his way of attacking people has been very effective. you may not like it. people may seem on the surface are over fended by it, and he does it and his numbers are stronger. maybe it doesn't make sense to tone it down? >> it might not make sense to tone it down but might make sense to tone it down to claim to be unifier of the republican party.
4:40 pm
trump is like the abusive husband who gets flowers to his wife the next day. melissa: you're comparing him to abusive husband? comparing him to violent individual? >> yes. let me make my point. not just the republican establishment are scratching their heads right now. it is also voters for other candidates. donald trump -- melissa: both of them. >> donald trump was brutal to some of the candidates, supporters of ron paul, carly's supporters, you name the list. jeb's supporters. this is very interesting turn of events, hey guys, i'm a unifier. that is exactly what abuser does the next day after he beats his wife. melissa: here is the problem were just star said, list of all supporters of other candidates, so that is like five people. everybody is flocking to the trump side. so this idea that it is offending people, turning people off, he should change it, it is working. >> well, no, we have to look at the facts. we have to look at facts of voting results and what polls are saying, surveys are saying. 65% of republican conservative

would i hate to see this country hurt by donald trump. david: that is by republicans. why is republicans declaring war on candidate bringing out voters in big numbers? david payne is back. why not just give money to the hillary campaign. this is essentially doing something that the hillary campaign would come out. >> better for us to get it out of the system and clear the air long before it become as general election match up between donald trump and hillary clinton. polls show donald trump already losing to hillary clinton. imagine what happens when she has months after months of air attacks against donald trump as our nominee, telling those stories and warning americans about dangers. david: even some republicans who don't support donald trump are getting fed up with these republican establishment attacks against donald trump. ken langone was one. he was on fbn earlier. take a listen. >> the big story is the american people saying we've had enough.
